Bay Area Bridge Tolls by Highway Number
Road signs carry route shields, not bridge names. Here is the toll for every Bay Area crossing looked up by the number you are following. Six of the seven numbers cost the same; one does not.
The short answer
SR-92, SR-84, SR-160, I-580, I-680 and I-80 all charge $8.50 for a two-axle car in 2026, and that is the same price with FasTrak, a License Plate Account or a mailed invoice. US-101 charges $10.25 with FasTrak, $10.50 by plate and $11.25 by invoice, because the Golden Gate Bridge is run by its own district. Every crossing is tolled in one direction only, so half of your round trip is always free.

What Each Number Actually Crosses
SR-92: the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge, $8.50
The longest fixed-link bridge in California: a 1.9-mile high-rise section over the shipping channel plus a 5.1-mile low trestle. You pay heading west toward the Peninsula and cross back to the East Bay for nothing.

The shortest bridge across San Francisco Bay and the southernmost vehicle crossing, linking Fremont and Newark to Menlo Park and East Palo Alto. Heavily used by Silicon Valley commuters.

Interstate 80 is the only Bay Area route with two toll bridges on it, and they charge in opposite directions. Both cost $8.50 in 2026, so the money is the same either way, but which leg of your trip is free is not.

Free: Eastbound toward Oakland
The busy one: 42.8 million toll-paid vehicles in fiscal 2022-23, more than double any other Bay Area crossing. It is also the only bridge where a standard FasTrak tag earns the carpool rate; everywhere else you need a FasTrak Flex.

Thirty miles up the road from the Bay Bridge, where I-80 crosses the Carquinez Strait between Crockett and Vallejo. Two parallel spans: the tolled eastbound cantilever of 1958 and the free westbound Alfred Zampa Memorial suspension bridge of 2003.

Two of these numbers do double duty. I-580 and I-680 both carry Bay Area express lanes as well as a toll bridge, and so do I-880, US-101 and SR-237. Express lanes are optional lanes priced by congestion, they operate on weekdays only, and the amount changes through the day. A bridge toll is a fixed price for crossing, charged at any hour, in one direction.
One FasTrak account covers both, and they appear as separate items on your statement, so an I-580 charge is not necessarily the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Live express-lane pricing is published at 511.org.
What Changes on 1 January 2027
The six state-bridge numbers stop sharing one price. From 1 January 2027 the Bay Area Toll Authority splits the two-axle toll by payment method: $9.00 with a FasTrak tag, $9.25 with a pre-registered License Plate Account and $10.00 on a mailed invoice. That is the first year FasTrak is actually cheaper than pay-by-plate on SR-92, SR-84, SR-160, I-580, I-680 and I-80, and the gap widens every January through 2030.
US-101 keeps its own calendar: the Golden Gate Bridge steps up every 1 July under the five-year schedule its district board adopted in March 2024, and it has charged three different prices by payment method for years.

How much is the 92 bridge toll?
The 92 bridge is the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge, which carries State Route 92 across the bay between Hayward and San Mateo. The toll is a flat $8.50 in 2026, the same whether you pay with FasTrak, a License Plate Account or a mailed invoice. Carpools of 3 or more pay $4.25 during weekday commute hours, 5-10 AM and 3-7 PM, with a FasTrak Flex tag set to position 3. You are charged westbound only; driving east back toward Hayward is free.
How much is the 84 bridge toll?
The 84 bridge is the Dumbarton Bridge, the State Route 84 crossing between Newark and Fremont on the East Bay side and Menlo Park and East Palo Alto on the Peninsula. The toll is $8.50 in 2026 for FasTrak, pay-by-plate and invoice alike, with a $4.25 carpool rate for 3 or more occupants on weekdays 5-10 AM and 3-7 PM using a FasTrak Flex tag. Tolls are collected westbound only, so the eastbound trip is free.
How much is the 580 bridge toll?
The 580 bridge is the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, which carries Interstate 580 across the northern bay. The toll is $8.50 in 2026 for every payment method, with a $4.25 carpool rate for 3 or more occupants weekdays 5-10 AM and 3-7 PM with a FasTrak Flex tag. You pay westbound, toward San Rafael; the eastbound run back to Richmond is free. Note that the separate I-580 Express Lanes in the Tri-Valley are a different charge entirely, priced by traffic conditions rather than at a fixed rate.
How much is the 680 bridge toll?
The 680 bridge is the Benicia-Martinez Bridge, the Interstate 680 crossing of the Carquinez Strait. The toll is $8.50 in 2026 across all payment methods, and $4.25 for carpools of 3 or more on weekdays 5-10 AM and 3-7 PM with a FasTrak Flex tag. Tolls are collected northbound only, at the plaza on the Martinez side; heading south into Martinez is free.
How much is the 80 bridge toll?
Interstate 80 crosses two Bay Area toll bridges, so the answer depends on which one you mean. Both cost $8.50 in 2026. The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is tolled westbound, at the plaza in Oakland, with the eastbound trip free. The Carquinez Bridge, about 30 miles north, is tolled eastbound, at the plaza in Vallejo, with the westbound trip free. Carpools of 3 or more pay $4.25 at both during weekday commute hours, and the Bay Bridge is the one crossing where a standard FasTrak tag qualifies rather than a FasTrak Flex.
Which Bay Area highway has the most expensive bridge toll?
US-101, which carries the Golden Gate Bridge. At $10.25 with FasTrak, $10.50 with a License Plate Account and $11.25 by invoice it is the only Bay Area crossing above $8.50, because it is run by the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District rather than the Bay Area Toll Authority. Do all the highway-numbered bridge tolls go up at the same time?
No. The six state-owned crossings on SR-92, SR-84, SR-160, I-580, I-680 and I-80 move together on the BATA schedule, which raises the two-axle toll on 1 January each year through 2030 and, from 1 January 2027, splits it by payment method into $9.00 FasTrak, $9.25 license plate and $10.00 invoice. US-101 and the Golden Gate Bridge run on a separate schedule that steps up every 1 July.
Is a numbered express lane the same as a bridge toll?
